Face Lift

A face lift revitalizes both the face and neck area, which loses elasticity with age. It reduces wrinkles, loose skin, and deep creases around the middle of the face, while giving better definition to the jowl and neck areas.

Before the surgery, patients are given general anesthesia. An incision is made in the hairline, which extends around the temple along the front of the ear so that no hair on the scalp needs to be shaved. If the procedure extends to the neck area, a small incision is also made under the chin. The facial muscles are then tightened so that skin can be pulled to a tighter, more desirable position. The skin is re-positioned to highlight the natural contours of the face, and excess skin is removed.

Recovery time for a face lift is relatively short, but swelling and bruising can last up to two weeks. Although most pain associated with the surgery will be gone after the first five to seven days, evidence of the surgery is still obvious for up to two weeks. Makeup can usually be worn on the seventh or eighth day after the surgery. It is advised that patients do not engage in strenuous activity or exercise for the three weeks that follow.

A mini face lift is a popular choice for patients looking to revitalize their face without undergoing a full face lift surgery. This procedure only targets the lower third of the face. Incisions are made along each ear so Dr. Cohen can lift and adjust any loose skin. Definition to the jaw and chin is restored, leaving you with a firmer, more youthful appearance. Recovery time is shorter than a traditional face lift. Swelling and discomfort are common in the two days following the procedure. Full recovery takes one to two weeks, at which time patients can resume all normal activities.
